Xi’an Microelectronics Research Institute (China Aerospace 771 Institute) is a national research institute under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and one of China’s leading organizations for aerospace-grade semiconductor devices, integrated circuits, hybrid microelectronics, and advanced chip packaging and testing technologies.

Supporting the production of aerospace and high-reliability semiconductor devices requires an exceptionally stable Process Cooling Water (PCW) system. Even small fluctuations in water temperature, pressure, or cleanliness can affect manufacturing precision, equipment reliability, and production yield.

To support the institute’s advanced semiconductor packaging and testing production line, Beijing Generalway supplied two custom Process Cooling Water (PCW) plate heat exchanger systems, providing precise temperature control and reliable thermal management for mission-critical semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

The Challenge

Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the most demanding industrial applications for thermal management systems.

Chip packaging and testing equipment requires Process Cooling Water (PCW) that maintains stable temperature, constant pressure, and ultra-high water purity throughout continuous operation. Any variation in these parameters can lead to equipment downtime, reduced production yields, or damage to sensitive manufacturing equipment.

For the Xi’an Microelectronics project, the cooling system needed to:

* Maintain stable Process Cooling Water (PCW) temperatures throughout semiconductor production

* Deliver constant water pressure for precision manufacturing equipment

* Preserve ultra-pure water quality within a closed-loop circulation system

* Prevent contamination between chilled water and semiconductor-grade water

* Minimize production downtime caused by thermal fluctuations

* Improve long-term equipment reliability and manufacturing consistency

The project demanded a highly reliable cooling solution capable of supporting aerospace-grade semiconductor manufacturing standards.

Our Solution

To meet these demanding requirements, Beijing Generalway engineered two custom Process Cooling Water (PCW) plate heat exchanger systems specifically designed for semiconductor manufacturing environments.

Each system utilizes a closed-loop heat exchange configuration, separating the facility’s chilled water network from the semiconductor-grade pure water circuit. High-efficiency plate heat exchangers transfer thermal energy between the two systems without allowing the fluids to mix, preserving the purity of the Process Cooling Water while delivering excellent heat transfer performance.

Following heat exchange, the Process Cooling Water passes through a dedicated filtration system before returning to the semiconductor production line. This configuration maintains stable water temperature, consistent pressure, and exceptionally clean water quality throughout continuous manufacturing operations.

The intelligent thermal management system continuously regulates operating conditions, minimizing fluctuations that could affect chip packaging and testing accuracy. By maintaining precise thermal stability, the system helps reduce equipment downtime while improving overall production efficiency and semiconductor product quality.

Designed specifically for clean manufacturing environments, the modular PCW systems provide high thermal efficiency, dependable long-term reliability, and simplified maintenance, making them well suited for advanced semiconductor fabrication and packaging facilities.
