The Handan Olympic Sports Center is one of the city’s premier sports and public event venues, serving as the main stadium for the 16th Hebei Provincial Games. Covering approximately 82,000 square meters (882,640 sq. ft.), the complex accommodates up to 30,000 spectators and includes an international-standard football field, a 400-meter athletics track, athlete facilities, media rooms, VIP areas, and supporting public spaces.

Designed to host professional sporting events, concerts, exhibitions, and year-round community activities, the venue requires a highly reliable HVAC system capable of maintaining comfortable indoor conditions despite rapidly changing occupancy levels and varying operational demands.
To support these requirements, the project installed two custom HVAC heat exchanger systems, creating an efficient and intelligent centralized heating and cooling solution specifically engineered for large public venues.
The Challenge
Large stadiums and sports complexes present unique HVAC challenges that differ significantly from conventional commercial buildings. Occupancy can fluctuate from a few hundred visitors during routine operations to tens of thousands of spectators during major events, placing considerable demands on climate control systems.
Different functional areas—including spectator seating, athlete preparation rooms, media centers, hospitality suites, and administrative offices—each require different temperature, humidity, and ventilation conditions.
For the Handan Olympic Sports Center, the HVAC solution needed to:
* Maintain consistent comfort across large indoor spaces with rapidly changing occupancy
* Respond quickly to fluctuating heating and cooling loads during sporting events
* Provide quiet operation that would not interfere with competitions, broadcasts, or audience experience
* Deliver reliable performance during extended operating hours
* Reduce energy consumption during both event and non-event periods
* Simplify facility management through intelligent monitoring and automation
The project demanded an HVAC system capable of balancing high-capacity performance with energy-efficient operation.
Our Solution
To meet the operational requirements of a modern sports venue, the project selected two intelligent HVAC heat exchanger systems featuring advanced automation, dynamic load control, and centralized monitoring.
The systems deliver high-efficiency heat transfer capable of rapidly responding to large fluctuations in heating and cooling demand throughout the venue. Intelligent control algorithms continuously adjust operating parameters based on occupancy levels, outdoor weather conditions, and the varying requirements of individual functional zones.
This dynamic operating strategy allows the venue to maintain stable indoor temperatures while reducing unnecessary energy consumption during periods of lower occupancy.
To accommodate the diverse functions within the stadium, the system provides independent climate control for different areas, including competition facilities, spectator seating, media workspaces, and support areas. Each zone can be optimized individually, ensuring both athlete performance and visitor comfort.
Special attention was also given to operational reliability. The HVAC system incorporates redundant equipment configurations to ensure uninterrupted operation during major sporting events and public gatherings. Optimized low-noise components and vibration control measures further minimize mechanical disturbance, creating a comfortable environment for athletes, spectators, broadcasters, and event organizers.
An integrated remote monitoring platform enables facility managers to supervise equipment performance, analyze operating data, receive automated fault alerts, and optimize system efficiency from a centralized control interface.
